Christmas caption ideas for small businesses
December has three separate jobs to do: sell gifts, tell people your hours, and stay visible in the quiet week. Here is what to post for each.

Captions you can use
Written to each platform’s own rules — the hashtag block that belongs on Instagram is exactly what makes a Google Business post look like spam.

Two things before December runs away with us. One: the festive menu is up and tables for the weekends before Christmas are going quickly. Three courses, $42, vegetarian and vegan versions of everything. Two: we're closed on the 25th, open every other day including New Year's Eve. Book by phone or just walk in midweek — we've always kept a few tables back for that.

Closing the laptop on a year that asked more of this team than any before it. No year-in-review carousel. Just thanks — to the clients who trusted us with the difficult briefs, and to a team that kept its standards when it would have been easier not to. Back on January 5. Have a proper rest, everyone.

The arc these belong in
One caption is not a campaign. This is the shape that works, and it is the same four phases Occasely plans automatically.
- TeaserEarly DecemberGift ideas at a price point. Say who each one is for — that is what makes it shareable.
- Build-upMid DecemberLast order dates for delivery, and what is running low.
- OfferWeek beforeOpening hours over the holidays, spelled out day by day.
- Last dayBetween the holidaysThe quiet-week post: what is open, what is discounted, what is new in January.
Why this occasion is worth posting for
- Gift buying is decided in the first three weeks of December; the last week is entirely logistics and hours.
- Opening-hours posts are the single most-read thing a local business publishes all year — and the most often forgotten.
- The week between Christmas and New Year is cheap to reach people in and almost nobody posts.
Three mistakes worth avoiding
Never posting your opening hours
It is the thing customers most need and the thing most often left to a Google listing that has not been touched since last year.
Starting on December 20
Gift decisions are largely made by mid-month. Late December is for logistics, not persuasion.
Going silent after Christmas
The quiet week has the least competition of the whole year for local attention, and almost every small business skips it.
Copying one caption is the easy part
The work is the rest of the campaign: 8 to 14 posts written for your business, in your language, dated in the weeks before Christmas, and published while you serve customers. Occasion campaigns come with Growth ($19/mo, 2 a month) and Pro ($39/mo, unlimited).
Plan Christmas in OccaselyQuestions
- What should a small business post in December?
- Gift ideas grouped by price in the first two weeks, last order dates and low stock mid-month, opening hours in the final week, and something in the quiet week after — when almost nobody else is posting.
- How often should I post at Christmas?
- Two to three times a week is plenty, as long as each post has a job. Daily posting with nothing to say performs worse than three good ones.
- Can I plan the whole of December in one go?
- That is exactly what Occasely's campaign arc does — describe the season once and get every December post written, dated and scheduled across your channels. Occasion campaigns come with Growth ($19/mo, 2 a month) and Pro ($39/mo, unlimited).
